Your Local
Car Club
If you are interested in cars and motor sport the best way
to enjoy your hobby and develop your enthusiasm is to get
involved with a local club that is recognised by the
governing body of British motor sport, the Motor Sports
Association (MSA). You will meet up with a lively bunch of
like minded enthusiasts who will offer you a wealth of
experience and support if you want to take part in
competition.
The
Loughborough Car Club
The
Loughborough Car Club, established in 1959, is one of the
East Midlands leading promoters of clubman's motor sport.
The club is centred on Loughborough but draws its
membership from all over Leicestershire, South Derbyshire
and South Nottinghamshire. Its members are active in all
aspects of the sport: rallies, trials, autotests, speed
events, circuit racing, marshalling, etc.
The Social
Side
The club has an active social calendar designed to
complement the more serious sporting events. Skittles,
bowling, talks, videos and quizzes are regularly organised
along with the annual Dinner Dance and Awards Presentation.
The highlight of the Club's month is the regular 'Club
Night', always held on the second Tuesday of each month at
the Club's home pub, The Black Swan, Shepshed, map
reference: 129/482197. Meet other members and hear what's
going on in the world of motor sport as well as picking up
tips and ideas.
The Tuesday
Evening Calendar
Small scale mid-week events are an important part of
achieving the support and enthusiasm that have always been
a special feature of the club. During the summer the club
normally holds four evening autotests and Auto Solo's. Half
a dozen twelve car rallies are normally organised on autumn
and winter evenings. All these events take place around
Leicestershire and provide a cheap and enjoyable night out.
See Future Events for details.
Marshalling,
Navigating & Helping
You do not need a car to play a full part in the club's
activities. Marshalling is a great way to get a feel for
the sport with a minimal financial outlay. Drivers with
cars always need helpful and occasionally experienced
people to passenger on trials, navigate on rallies and
provide service crews on many different events.
Young
Drivers
You need to be over 17 and hold a Road Traffic Driving
Licence to drive in most forms of motor sport. However, on
certain types of events (e.g. trials and autotests) that
are held on private land you can drive from 15 years
onwards. You can be a passenger (navigator) on certain
events from 12 years onwards. The Club operates a very
successful Junior Team for 15 year olds upwards. It's a
great way to get into the sport in a safe and affordable
way.
